(If this isn't you, check out our Tradespeople FAQs)
When you accept a quote or job cost from the tradesperson, you pay them directly for the job. Builderscrack doesn’t hold payments or deposits on behalf of the tradesperson.
Tips for managing your payments to the tradesperson
- It is common for tradespeople to request a deposit before starting work, especially with higher-value jobs. We’d strongly recommend that you check the Consumer Protection website for more specific advice on deposits and quotes.
- If your job is larger in scale, you may need to agree on a payment schedule with your tradesperson. When each payment is due, ensure that each payment stage reflects the work that has been completed.
- It’s not uncommon for additional work to be discovered by your tradesperson or for homeowners to change the requirements of the job once work gets started. Your tradesperson should advise you of the additional tasks required and what this will mean to your budget.
- If the tradesperson secures your job, Builderscrack may issue the tradesperson with an invoice for a success fee, this depends on what plan they are subscribed to. It is against our terms and conditions for this to be passed onto the homeowner – if you encounter this, please let us know.
- Ensure you have a copy of all your invoices and keep a record of your payments.
- Make a note of when payments have been issued and for the work they cover within the Builderscrack ‘interact’ function. By communicating using Builderscrack you will have a permanent digital record of what has been discussed and paid.
For jobs worth under $30,000 including GST, a contract is not required but can be very useful. For more detail on contracts read this post.
